At Acadiana OB/GYN, our goal is to guide you through your pregnancy journey, providing expert guidance paired with compassionate patient-focused support.
Pre-Conception — Preparing to Conceive
If you are ready to become pregnant, the first step is to consult with your doctor to ensure you have all of the information you need to have a healthy pregnancy. Our doctors can review your health and family background to identify any health conditions or risk factors that need to be treated to support conception.
In line with our practice Code of Ethics, our approach to fertility is rooted in a respect for the value and integrity of the human person from his or her beginning at conception. We provide or promote treatments that seek to cooperate with or restore the normal or optimal functioning of the human reproductive system and avoid all treatments that seek directly to suppress, circumvent, or destroy the functioning of the human reproductive system.
If you are having trouble conceiving, our doctors can provide solutions to increase fertility and address any health issues that may be preventing you from becoming pregnant.
Prenatal Care — Support Throughout Your Pregnancy Journey
Whether this is your first baby or your fourth, the best way to ensure a healthy pregnancy and birth is by receiving regular prenatal care. During your prenatal appointments, your doctor will monitor your health and your baby’s growth and development, so we can act quickly should any problems arise.
At your prenatal appointments, you can expect to receive regular ultrasounds, tests, measurements, and other necessary assessments. This information will help us identify any factors that could indicate a high-risk pregnancy or delivery and form a plan of treatment .
We are a patient-focused practice, so during these appointments, your doctor will give you the opportunity to ask questions and voice any concerns you have during your pregnancy. We will also ensure you have everything you need to prepare for the birth of your baby and help you create a birth plan that you are most comfortable with.
We recommend that you reach out to us as soon as you have a positive home pregnancy test. Typically, we will schedule your first visit at around 7 or 8 weeks in order to see your baby on an ultrasound.

During your first and second trimesters, you will have monthly prenatal appointments, unless there is a reason we need to see you more often.
When you reach your third trimester (at 28 weeks) you will begin to see us more often. We recommend you visit at least twice a month. At 36 weeks, you will begin coming in for weekly appointments as you prepare for delivery.

Even with a high-risk pregnancy, we will continue to care for you and deliver your baby with consultations with Maternal Fetal Medicine (High Risk) specialists.
Labor & Delivery — Supporting You in Your Birth Experience
Our physicians will work with you throughout pregnancy to create a birth plan that supports your wants and needs during labor and delivery. A few options include:
- Unmedicated (natural) birth
- Medicated birth
- Epidural anesthesia
- Delivery via C-Section
- Having a doula during labor/delivery
- Working with a midwife
- Skin to skin
- Delayed cord clamping
Despite the best laid plans, sometimes your baby or your body has other plans. This is expected and okay. If at any time through labor and delivery, you feel the need to make changes to your birth plan, our doctors are always more than willing to adapt and work with you to help provide the best experience for you and your baby.
Acadiana OB/GYN doctors perform hospital deliveries at Ochsner Lafayette General Medical Center.
Acadiana OB/GYN’s physicians enthusiastically advocate for women who prefer natural birth. We can help you understand and decide on non-medicated birth options and create a birth plan you are most comfortable with.
Postpartum — Healthy Recovery After Delivery
Immediately after birth and during the weeks following delivery, our doctors will provide comprehensive postpartum care. This will include at least one routine check-up to ensure that you are on track for a full, healthy recovery. During these appointments, your doctor will:
- Perform routine exams
- Create any necessary health plans to support recovery
- Address questions or concerns about nursing and lactation
- Identify any signs of postpartum depression and provide a treatment plan if needed
- Help you prepare to transition out of the postpartum stage
Our doctors have guided thousands of women through the excitement and challenges of pregnancy, labor, delivery, and postpartum. We know that this is an incredibly special time in your life. One that deserves respect, professional care, and compassionate support at every stage. You can trust that you are in the right hands when you choose Acadiana OB/GYN to support you in your pregnancy journey.
